Seamless steel pipe storage requirements

Date:2024-07-02

Carbon seamless (SMLS) steel pipes are widely used and have strict storage requirements. Adhering to the proper storage environment, implementing necessary anti-rust measures, and paying attention to storage details will ensure that seamless steel pipes remain in good condition and provide reliable support for production and construction across various industries.

This article will talk about the seamless steel pipe storage requirements.

Storage Requirements for Seamless Steel Pipes:

1. Environment: The storage environment should be dry and ventilated, with an indoor temperature maintained above 15°C.

2. Drainage: The storage area should have trenches to facilitate timely drainage and prevent water accumulation.

3. Protection: Seamless steel pipes should be protected from prolonged exposure to sunlight and rain. If stored outdoors, appropriate measures for sun and rain protection should be taken.

Precautions for Storage of Seamless Steel Pipes:

1. Inspection: Before storage, seamless steel pipes should be thoroughly inspected. Any defects or damage should be addressed promptly to prevent impact on future use.

2. Handling: During transportation and storage, handle the pipes with care to avoid physical damage such as collisions and falls.

3. Maintenance: Do not store seamless steel pipes for extended periods. Regular inspections and necessary maintenance, including anti-corrosion treatments, should be carried out based on the actual condition of the pipes.

4. Stacking:

Follow the principle of first-in-first-out (FIFO) to ensure materials are used in the order they are received.

Stack pipes according to variety and specification while ensuring stable and safe stacking.

Different types of materials should be stacked separately to prevent confusion and mutual corrosion.

Avoid storing items that corrode steel pipes near the stacking area.

Elevate and level the bottom of the stack to prevent dampness or deformation.

Pipes stored outdoors should have wooden mats or stone strips underneath, with a slight tilt for drainage. Ensure materials are placed straight to prevent bending and deformation.

5. Stack Dimensions:

Manual stacking height should not exceed 1.2 meters; mechanical stacking height should not exceed 1.5 meters.

Stack width should not exceed 2.5 meters.

Maintain inspection channels of approximately 0.5 meters and access channels of 1.5 to 2.0 meters, depending on the material size and transportation machinery.

6. Elevation:

If stored on a cement floor in a sunny warehouse, elevate the bottom of the stack by 0.1 meters.

On a mud floor, elevate by 0.2 to 0.5 meters.

For outdoor storage, elevate by 0.3 to 0.5 meters on a cement floor and 0.5 to 0.7 meters on a sand and mud surface.
