Regulations provide comprehensive guidelines for marking seamless steel pipes to ensure traceability, quality assurance, and ease of identification. The key requirements are outlined as follows.

Manufacturer Identification:

The markings must prominently display the manufacturer’s name or logo in a way that is clear, permanent, and standardized, ensuring it remains legible over time.

Essential information to be included: manufacturer’s name or trademark, applicable product standard number, pipe grade, detailed specifications, and a traceable identification number or contact details. For precision seamless pipes, additional details like performance indicators and accuracy levels should be included.

Marking Techniques:

Markings can be applied through methods such as stamping, printing, embossing, labeling, branding, or attaching tags. The supplier may choose to use one or more marking techniques.

For pipes with an outer diameter of 36 mm or greater, markings must be placed at least 200 mm away from the pipe ends to avoid damage during handling and transportation.

Applicability to Different Pipe Types:

These marking rules apply to a wide variety of seamless steel pipes, including those for low-pressure fluid transport, thin-walled pipes, general-purpose seamless pipes, and pipes with complex cross-sections.

Specialized Marking for Specific Uses:

Seamless pipes used in oil, gas, and anti-corrosion applications, such as 3PE-coated pipes, must include clear markings indicating the grade and type of the pipe to ensure correct application.

Packaging and Labeling:

For pipes packaged in containers or using brackets, clear labels or tags must be affixed to the outer layers of the packaging. Thin-walled pipes and those packed in kits should also be clearly labeled for easy identification.
