Processing allowance of seamless steel pipes

Date:2024-05-16

The processing allowance of seamless steel pipes is determined by the dimensional tolerance range of the product. Dimensional tolerance refers to the acceptable variation in the actual size of the product. This tolerance is crucial for ensuring compatibility and coordination between products. Below, we'll discuss the reserved dimensions for processing seamless steel pipes across different production methods.

Precision Seamless Steel Pipes:

Precision seamless steel pipes typically maintain a tolerance of ±0.1mm for inner and outer diameters, with the option for tighter tolerances of ±0.025mm for special requirements. It is advisable to allocate a machining allowance of at least 0.2mm for grinding processes. The specific machining allowance can be determined through communication and coordination with the manufacturer, considering the actual tolerance data.

Ordinary Hot-Rolled Seamless Steel Pipes:

Our factory produces structural seamless steel pipes according to the national standard GB/T 8162-2018, primarily used in mechanical structures and parts processing. These pipes have upper limit tolerances for outer diameters and lower limit tolerances for inner diameters. For instance, a seamless steel pipe with an outer diameter of 133mm and an inner diameter of 83mm may have an actual outer diameter ranging up to 133.5mm and an inner diameter down to 82.5mm. For turning processes, it is recommended to allocate a unilateral machining allowance of 0.7mm or more. The larger machining allowance for ordinary hot-rolled seamless steel pipes compensates for the wider tolerance range during production, ensuring that the processed pipes meet the requirements for mechanical structure and parts processing. You can determine the machining allowance in consultation with the factory, based on actual tolerance data.

Determining the processing allowance for seamless steel pipes involves various factors. Effective communication and coordination with manufacturers are essential to select the most suitable processing allowance. By considering actual tolerance data and production conditions, you can ensure that the chosen processing allowance is appropriate, minimizing issues during subsequent processing stages.
