Anti-corrosion measures for SSAW steel pipes in water supply systems

Date:2024-06-18

In water supply systems, SSAW steel pipes need effective anti-corrosion measures to ensure longevity and safety. Here are some commonly used methods:

1. Epoxy Coal Tar Pitch Paint:

This is a standard method for anti-corrosion. Typically, epoxy coal tar pitch paint is applied as both a primer and a topcoat, with each being applied twice. This method is simple, convenient, and effective for general requirements.

2. Three Oils and Two Cloths Method:

For higher requirements, the "three oils and two cloths" method is recommended. This involves applying three layers of paint and two layers of glass fiber cloth in a staggered construction. This enhances the durability and anti-corrosion properties of the pipe.

3. Interior Coating for Drinking Water:

If the spiral steel pipe is used for drinking water, environmentally friendly paint, such as epoxy polyamide paint, should be used. This ensures the safety and potability of the water.

Base Material and Coating for PE Anti-Corrosion Steel Pipe:

The base material for PE anti-corrosion steel pipes can include seamless steel pipes, spiral steel pipes, and straight seam steel pipes.

Three-Layer Polyethylene (3PE) Anti-Corrosion Coating:

The 3PE coating is widely used in the oil pipeline industry due to its excellent corrosion resistance, water vapor permeability resistance, and mechanical properties.

The 3PE coating consists of a three-layer structure:

Fusion Bonded Epoxy Powder Coating (FBE): Provides excellent adhesion to the pipe surface and superior chemical resistance.

Adhesive Layer: Bonds the FBE layer to the polyethylene layer.

Extruded Polyethylene Coating: Offers outstanding mechanical protection.

Advantages of 3PE Coating:

- Superior Corrosion Resistance: The combination of FBE and polyethylene layers significantly improves the pipe's resistance to corrosion.

- Water Vapor Permeability Resistance: The polyethylene layer prevents moisture penetration, protecting the pipe from internal and external corrosion.

- Mechanical Properties: The extruded polyethylene coating provides robust mechanical protection, making it ideal for buried pipelines.

Overall, using these anti-corrosion methods ensures the longevity, safety, and reliability of spiral steel pipes in water supply systems.
