7075 T651 aluminum plate

Date:2025-04-02

The 7075 aluminum plate is one of the strongest aluminum alloys available, offering exceptional strength and durability. It is an aluminum-zinc alloy, containing 1%–8% zinc, along with magnesium, copper, and chromium in smaller quantities. Through precipitation hardening, this alloy achieves extremely high strength levels, making it ideal for airframe structures and other high-stress applications.

Standard Cut Tolerance: -0'' to +1/8''

Precision Cutting: Available with a tolerance of ±0.005''

7075-T651 Aluminum Plate

Our 7075-T651 aluminum plate undergoes solution heat treatment, followed by minimal stretching to relieve internal stresses. It is then artificially aged to allow the alloying elements to precipitate, achieving maximum strength.

Tensile Strength Range: 74-78 KSI

Standards: Conforms to AMS QQ-A-250/12 and ASTM B209

Mill Thickness Tolerance: Varies from -0 to +.014/0.130, depending on thickness.

Chemical Composition (%) of 7075-T651 Aluminum Plate

The 7075 aluminum alloy is primarily an aluminum-zinc alloy known for its high strength and toughness. The typical composition is:

Aluminum (Al): Balance

Zinc (Zn): 5.1% – 6.1%

Magnesium (Mg): 2.1% – 2.9%

Copper (Cu): 1.2% – 2.0%

Chromium (Cr): 0.18% – 0.28%

Iron (Fe): ≤ 0.50%

Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.40%

Manganese (Mn): ≤ 0.30%

Titanium (Ti): ≤ 0.20%

Other Elements: ≤ 0.05% (each), ≤ 0.15% (total)

Key Characteristics of 7075-T651 Aluminum Plate

1. High Strength & Toughness

One of the strongest aluminum alloys, comparable to some low-carbon steels.

Ideal for high-stress structural applications.

2. Excellent Fatigue Resistance

Superior performance under cyclic loading, making it suitable for aircraft and aerospace applications.

3. Good Machinability

Can be easily machined, but requires sharp tools to avoid work hardening.

4. Limited Weldability

Not recommended for conventional welding due to its susceptibility to cracking.

Special friction stir welding (FSW) is sometimes used.

5. Moderate Corrosion Resistance

Better corrosion resistance than 2024 aluminum, but not as high as 5xxx series alloys.

Often anodized or coated for enhanced protection.

6. Heat Treatable

Can be heat-treated for additional strength through precipitation hardening.

T651 temper means it has been solution heat-treated, stress relieved by stretching, and artificially aged.

Applications of 7075-T651 Aluminum Plate

Aerospace: Aircraft structural components, fuselage, and wing spars.

Automotive: High-performance car chassis, suspension components.

Defense & Military: Weapons, armor plates, and missile parts.

Industrial & Engineering: High-load machinery, molds, and tooling.

This combination of exceptional strength, fatigue resistance, and machinability makes 7075-T651 aluminum plate one of the best choices for demanding structural applications.
